Up early this morning to get to the airport for our flight to Madeira. We had a really good buffet breakfast at the Azoris Garden hotel which included a full breakfast menu, fruits, yogurt, local preserves (fig and guava), and some great local cheese (they are known for having yummy cheese in Sao Miguel Island). They also know how to do a proper coffee here, with warmed milk. Juice choices included peach and pineapple juice (YUM). Pineapples are a big crop here.
The wind is blowing 51mph here so our flight is delayed coming in. We will be 2 hours late leaving for Madeira. The airport has one runway and is fairly small but has everything that’s needed. Shops, restaurant/bar, snacks, duty free, and a childrens/family area. In the main terminal are the usual car rental, money exchange, and a larger restaurant. The runway looks so short, makes one wonder how the big Airbus can land and take-off but they do…………
