Day 2 Azores for a night

City gate Ponta Delgada, Azores

We had a great flight to Ponta Delgada and the weather is awesome, moderate sea air, slight wind.   We grabbed a taxi from the airport as per the arrangement with Sata when they cancelled one of our fligths last week.  Because we had to leave a day early, they put us up for a night.

The hotel Azoris Garden and Conference Centre checked us in early,  the vouchers were all ready, very professional.  Hotel for a night (2 rooms) in a 4 star hotel, with meals and taxi to and from the airport, pretty sweet deal for having to add another day to our holiday.

We checked in (time is ahead 5 hours here) so we have all day to explore.  We discovered a great little coffee place where locals go called O Petisco, the espresso was fabulous and came to 1.85euro for three. A quick stroll  around, some picture taking and a tour of the old city fort.  As you can see from the photos, the streets in the old city are cobbled and have nice patterns.   We think the patterns indicate which area or street you are on – will have to look that up.   Back to the hotel for our free lunch, which was good, but not noteworthy.  A nap now I think, then a walk before dinner.
