BC & back home

A short drive from Radium Hot Springs to Moyie Lake after our 2 hour soak was a nice change. Hwy 93 is much less hilly and winding so made for an easy drive, and the wind was finally not a factor. We arrived at the park and as it was 3 years ago, no shortage of sites available, although the comfort station showers were shut down except for one. We were told by the host later that the park was due to close in a week. After a quick set up we settled in to read our books and relax for the evening. Dinner tonight is pork chops with a side of couscous mixed with broccoli and snap peas.

We have now passed what is considered the ‘geological middle’ of Canada and 3 time zones, so we are now gaining an hour each time zone.

On our way again in the morning we did not know where we were going to end up and while driving decided on Kettle River recreation area. Driving now along Hwy 3 the drive is up and over quite a few steep, long passes – one of which is the drive down into Osoyoos which is well known for smoking brakes. We arrived at our destination to find the campground half devastated by a wildfire that occurred in 2015. We found a nice site and noticed quite a few Class B vans at the campground. It is a small campground through which the Kettle River meanders. A host came by to collect our fee.

A short drive the following day took us to our last camping destination in E.C. Manning park. This is one of BC’s largest Provincial Parks and has several campgrounds, a resort area, and many hiking trails. We chose to stay at the Coldspring campground which was quite busy with all the good sites along the creek taken. Half the campground was already closed for the season. We did a walk to the trailhead and then back at our site played some cribbage before dinner. A Stellar Jay came for a visit and was very curious about my shoes which happen to be the same colour.

To end our trip we headed to Chilliwack to visit with family for a couple days, then boarded the ferry to return to Vancouver Island. Nice to be back home, but looking forward to our next adventures. Planning is already underway.
