We are packed and ready.   We will be mostly hiking and walking around villages, so a backpack and large carry on (purse/overnight bag) is all we need.  We both have an Osprey (pictured above) backpack as our main luggage.  They are the perfect bag for travel.  They open like a suitcase, the straps tuck away if you have to check the bags, lots of pockets, the zips are protected from prying fingers, and best of all they leave you hands free.   I also used a Lululemon overnight zip bag for my carry on which held all my electronics, paperwork, glasses, etc.  all in separate pockets and with a long and wide shoulder strap.  No need for ‘going out’ clothes, beach wear, or golf clothes – layers, and more layers are the way to go when touring in Madeira since the climate can change drastically from sea level to mountaintop.  Travelling light is the best!
