2022 Rewind

2022 did not begin well: After a great family visit with all in attendance at Nik’s for Christmas, we all ended up getting COVID. We were ill with symptoms for three weeks and lingering fatigue and cough for another three. The girls had much less impact which was a blessing with Rachel being pregnant.

To make up for the bad start, however, came two awesome events; we welcomed our puppy Cedar into the family in January, then Grand baby Freya on March 7.

We had three exhausting weeks of night time potty training and crate training but Cedar did settle into a routine quickly and was able to sleep quietly through the night after about six weeks. We started his training at home immediately and also enrolled in puppy classes.

I flew to Ottawa on March 3rd to help the soon to be parents get ready, and stayed for a few weeks afterwards while they adjusted to their new life.

On April 3rd we went to Chilliwack to dog sit for NIk & Mike while they took a trip to Hawaii. The three dogs kept us on our toes and we were happy to get home after the two weeks.

On a few camping trips in May and June we went to some lovely new areas.

End of June Rachel and Freya came for a visit. Chris and Great Grandma Maggie saw her for the first time in person. We were all so grateful Rachel made the trip with such a young one.

In August we left again to travel back East, this time for Rachel and Frances wedding in Sep. We decided to take our time and travel for 3 months seeing new parts of the US both going and returning home.

The wedding on Sep 3rd was a weekend affair at a small resort – all went smoothly. We stayed only a week in Ottawa then started slowly made our way back home, arriving on VanIsle Oct 14.

While away, long-time friends Paul and Moe moved from Ottawa to Qualicum. They stayed in our house while we were gone, and then moved into a newly bought home in town. We finally got to hike Wesley Ridge, one that’s been on our radar since moving here, and they joined us for the trek.

Christmas this year was quietly spent with Maggie with boxing day brunch with friends Moe and Paul. On Dec 30 we went to a campground in Nanaimo for a few nights – we wanted to ring in the new year in a fun way.
