Indiana

Another hot, hot, day forcast so again we are looking for a place to plug in for the night to run the Air if needed. It’s been fun to drive through little towns and see old stately buildings, refurbished ones, and some that are stuck in time. We stopped in Delphi Indiana to stretch our legs at a park and discovered one such hidden gem.

CANAL PARK, DELPHI

We thought we were stopping at the usual town park, only to discover a cool 1850’s pioneer village, museum, and campground. The Canal Park is next to a portion of the Erie/Wabash Canal and offers tours and events, as well as canal boat rides. The old buildings have been well preserved and several old cabins can be rented. There is also a walking/driving tour that is well mapped out and showcases the bridges over the canal in several towns. They are all unique in style and age.

The campground offers both primitive and hook-ups, so due to the warm weather we happily took an electric site for $25. The bathroom & shower were housed in an old barn, so needless to say, I didn’t venture in there for fear of running into little critters. We walked into town to get some take-out Mexican food which was pretty good. The tiny restaurant/drive through/food truck called Mitchell’s is obviously very popular – good food, good prices, and friendly staff. It was a humid and somewhat warm night, so neither of us slept particularly well, but at least the rain held off. Dark clouds were looming all around us in the morning though. Would have stayed longer to check out the canal bridges if not for the rainy forecast.
