At the start of our Route 2 road trip, we stopped in Monroe, WA to stock up because crossing the border we had to limit what we were bringing. I guess we were gone a little too long for Cedar, as he scratched the mesh on his crate and busted loose. He was sitting in the driver’s seat to greet us on our return. Damn, we were afraid he might do that. Since he is still a puppy and looks for trouble when he is bored I guess we are going to be buying a new crate.
Our destination for the first night is the Skykomish Ballpark Campground which was pre-booked so that we had a definite spot for our first night. It took a little longer to get there than we hoped. Right off Route 2 the campground had no signs and we drove past twice before getting directions at a gas station. Finally arriving we checked in with the host (letting her know that signage would be appreciated), and settled in. A baseball practice was going on which was fun to watch. The campground washrooms are outdated, but the host said there is a fridge, potable water, and BBQ free for campers to use. There are some nice wooded sites along the river, and a few open grassy sites with a picnic table and fire ring. The rail line runs directly beside campground across the river, so was quite loud at times, and we heard one long train during the night. The temperature was perfect for sleeping.
