BC to Ontario via the USA

Great to be back on the road and exploring again. We are heading to Ontario to see the girls and to celebrate Rachel and Francis’ wedding on Sep 3rd. Our road trip going there will be on US Route 2 which goes all the way to Boston. This route takes us through northern US states that we haven’t been to before, so it will be nice to travel new roads. We will be crossing back into Canada at Sault Ste. Marie to avoid the big cities of Chicago, Detroit, etc.

The ferry was pre-booked well in advance as they are having serious staff shortages resulting in many cancellations, and being summer most are full up. We got a $45 discount by booking an early morning ferry. We had to leave Cedar for the first time on the ferry because the van is too big for the open deck. He was not too happy about it, but didn’t seem overly stressed when we returned which we were happy to see. From the ferry we drove straight to Centennial Beach in Delta where there is a beautiful trail along the ocean, and a “birds of prey” protected marsh. Cedar badly needed a walk (he let us know in no uncertain terms), before heading to the border crossing.

At the Peace Arch border crossing, not far from Delta, we waited about an hour in line. The border guard was very pleasant, asked few questions, did a quick look-see and then sent us on our way. Phew……… always nice to have a quick and easy crossing.

We headed east on a round about route to find Hwy 9 to avoid taking the I5 which turned out to be a bit of a mistake in terms of time. Although a nice drive, the road is windy and slow because of all the small towns, rural truckers, and having to do slower speeds. We eventually got back to I5 and took it to Everett where we got onto Route 2.
