Rushing River

As we left Quetico with plans to stop at the same Boondockers Welcome we visited previously, our plans changed after finding the space unavailable for the night. After a quick check on a map we decided to head to Rushing River campground along Hwy 11 just before Kenora.

Surprisingly the traffic was light given that I had read this was a preferred truckers route. We arrived at the campground and it was a self serve check-in. There were no envelopes to submit payment so we were to find a site, and then pay at the gate the next morning. Driving around we noticed the sites have no rhyme or reason to them with electric, non-electric, and tent sites all mixed together and some sites where parking was on a natural rock area. There is also an open grassy area for camping. The park has a nice sandy beach area for swimming and, of course, the rushing river. There is also a short accessible path along the beach area. Unfortunately, that area of the campground was closed for the season – it would have been nice to sleep by the river. From this campground there are 5 portage routes that date back to a time before Europeans arrived.
