July 2021 – BC to Ontario, day 5

The first 3 days we managed to get through BC, Alberta, and Saskatchewan – early mornings and long travel days. When we left North Battleford we drove to Saskatoon. After fuelling up Chris checked for a response to a question he had sent to Pleasure Way and they said ‘if we want to stop by the factory, they would be happy to take a look’, so we did. 10 minutes later we met one of the owners, the main sales rep, and one of their service mechanics. Super nice guys and very knowleable – they sorted us out quickly. Funny thing we discovered is that the factory is located on Portage Road in Saskatoon – I pointed out our Portage sign to Grant the sales rep. (Our rig is called Portage)

We decided at Saskatoon to take Hwy 11 south to the Trans-Canada hwy, a 3 hour drive, because there are more options for fuelling and Hwy 16 is not in the best shape. We drove around Regina on the great ring road and stopped in a little town called Whitewood. I called thenindicated phone number and they had space, so we paid $28.25 and had a quiet nights sleep. The campground is small but well equipped. According to our neighbour, they have rodeo’s in town through the summer. There are free showers, dump station, an outdoor pool, baseball diamond, and a golf course next door. After a quick shower & Tai Chi, we packed up and hit the road by 7:30. As we left in the morning we saw the town is also a popular truck stop with 3 gas stations full of trucks and a couple campers.

Off to Kenora today we will leave Saskatchewan and travel right through Manitoba to Ontario. 5 days, 5 provinces – not bad…… Because it is a long weekend, the campsites will all be full and likely all the free spots as well, so we will be staying at some Boondockers Welcome. Glad now I joined that group.

The landscape is a little less prairie like now so hopefully the drive will be less windy today. Yesterday was tough on the arms.
