Miko's bed
Beloved Miko

From Yuma, Hwy 8 all the way to Tucson. Great easy drive with little traffic and slight elevation on a couple small ranges. Nice to see decent rest stops again.

Can’t beat free camping. 30 minutes southwest of Tucson we are camping at a Snyder Hill BLM camping – free. So you drive in and pick a place to park, its that easy….. It is a popular one, quite full up and it is dry camping (in case you wonder – we have water jugs, a generator, solar panels, propane for cooking and heating, and we use body wipes for bathing to conserve water but we do have a full bathroom – 😀 I’m not going out in the desert during the night! ). Thankfully it is winter and too cold for the scorpions, spiders, and snakes. The max. allowable days here is 14 days which we could easily manage, but we are staying 5.

Miko is happy here. Lots of sun and she can go free. Miko meows 🐈🐈🐈. Would be more but there is no green grass to chew on.

Saguaro Mountains

We are surrounded here by the Coronado National Forest which has designated wilderness areas spread across separate mountain ranges. In the Tucson area is the Saguaro National Park which you will see from our pictures, is full of these cacti. We hiked a trail to Bridal Wreath Falls, expecting at the end to see a trickle at best, but we were pleasantly surprised to find a pool of water and falls above so we had a nice lunch at the foot of the falls. The trail is very well marked and maintained with a gradual elevation gain. 5.6 miles (9km) in and back.

We tried to take Miko on a picnic outing.. I think she thought she was a potential meal and was not too happy. Also, our lunch bag snagged some cacti – OMG, they are nasty. Grabbed a thorn to remove it and when I went to throw it in a bush it stuck to my finger- ouch!
