We drove through the park from South to North. The park is vast and is actually 2 deserts that converge midway – The Mojave desert and the Colorado desert. The Joshua trees grow only in the Mojave desert areas. We did a couple short hikes – to a ranch to see old adobe style buildings – and through a very odd Cholla cactus garden where you are warned to NOT touch the plants.
There is a lot of wildlife in the park but we have seen only one young coyote and a Black-tailed hare (it has some big ears). In summer you will see much more wildlife if you dare venture into the park in the extreme heat. It can go to over 100F in summer! No snake sightings !
