Catalina Spa & RV Resort, Desert Palm Springs, California

To celebrate Christmas and New Years we treated ourselves to an RV resort in Desert Hot Springs with natural mineral hot springs pools and hot tubs, as well as numerous activities.

Another visit to Joshua Tree Park for a beautiful day of hiking and site seeing. The Mojave and Colorado deserts converge here and the landscape, plants, and rock formations are all very interesting. There were once over 300 gold mines in the region and several hikes allow visitors to glimpse a bit of the gold rush era.

A very unusual garden exists at the elevation where the Mojave desert and Colorado desert converge. A Cholla Cactus garden is a very popular and bizarre scene to see. The needles from these will penetrate the skin just by rubbing up against them – hence a first aid kit is at the entrance to the path.

Christmas was celebrated with a trip to the hot tub, a nice dinner, and of course Christmas cheer.

On Boxing day a trip to an outlet mall was a little disappointing – the deals were not great. We spent the afternoon in Palm Springs strolling the main street and then lunch at Lulu’s – an interesting and popular restaurant with posters of stars and huge chandeliers. Then a drive through old Palm Springs to see homes originally owned by many of the rich and famous …. We came across a swanky hotel with my maiden name – had to take a picture.

Thursday afternoon we had an early dinner at Las Casuelas https://www.lascasuelas.com/ in Palm Springs- the food was really good all around, and the Marg’s even better. After dinner we walked to Robolights – a must see because there is nothing else like it!!… Created by one guy on his 4 acre residential property, it is a Sci-Fi Christmas lights display – the largest private display in the US and quite strange. The entrance fee is a donation and it can get over 3000 visitors a night. It was very odd but fascinating at the same time.
