KM 3720 Okotoks, Alberta

Now, on to Calgary….

We exit Hwy 1 before Calgary and take back country roads to Okotoks where we will stay for 2 nights at the Okotoks Lions Campground.  It is a small campground but well equipped, clean, and relatively quiet.  We check in and   are escorted to the site and assisted with the parking of our trailer.   This is apparently not uncommon in RV parks.  The campground is located at the edge of town in an easily accessible area, and everything you could need is a short drive away.   We get a glimpse of the mountains in the distance.   Getting closer to our destination !!!!

Next morning we head into Calgary (in rush hour) to pick up our friend Rebecca.  The 30 min. drive takes and hour.  We head to the Calgary Zoo for the day, mainly to see the Panda exhibit which currently is housing 2 rare cubs born in captivity.   The cubs are soon being sent back to China, so our timing is great.   The entrance fee is $30 per adult.  The Zoo is well maintained with 3 main areas with both indoor and outdoor exhibits – Europe and Asia / Africa / Canadian Wilds.   The penguin exhibit was my favourite and we arrived there just in time for their feeding which was great to watch.   It’s a cold windy day, so we decide to skip the Canadian exhibits (we hope to see the real thing anyhow, so no biggy).

After the zoo, we have a late lunch, early dinner at a Thai restaurant near Rebecca’s, then it’s time to say so long.    There is a lot to see and do in Calgary, but as we are moving to BC we will be back another time.  Maybe we will do the Calgary Stampede next time.
