KM 1918 Blue Lake, Vermillion Bay ON

Blue Lake, Vermillion Bay, Ontario

Leaving Kakabeka Falls we stop at the parking area and take another walk to the falls before leaving.   In the cold of the morning there is a nice mist coming off the water rushing into the pools below the falls.

 .

Continuing our drive through Ontario, the terrain now is less hilly, and the flora is primarily spruce fens, but parts of the Canadian Sheild are still evident.   We are planning to stop in Winnipeg on Friday which is only 7.5 hrs, so the drive today is a short 4 hours, and to Winnipeg it will be even shorter.

On the way to our stop for the night, Blue Lake Provincial Campground, we stop in the small village of Vermilion Bay to pick up a few groceries at the Co-op which is a  combination grocery and hardware store.  It has limited items but we find what we need.   The campground has really good reviews and is about a 15 minute drive off highway 17.   It s a small campground. and when we get to the gate there is no staff person and it is a self serve registration.   We drive in to the sites and find a large pull-through site.

After quickly setting up camp we walked to the beach which is a beautiful sandy beach area about 1 KM long with picnic tables, several playgrounds, and washrooms.  The lake appears to be quite large and as the campground has a boat launch it seems it is popular with fisherman.   Very tempting to have a swim but its late afternoon and not very warm outside.   The campground has nice facilites, fairly modern and clean, and also offers several travel trailer and tent trailer rental options.

Tonights dinner is homemade pizza done on the BBQ.  YUM…..
